The Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project has commenced a three-day capacity-building programme for local government project management committees, across the 16 local government areas of Taraba State.

Key Highlights

  • Three-day capacity-building programme launched for LGPMC members across Taraba State’s 16 LGAs.
  • Training focuses on climate resilience, sustainable land management and improved livelihoods.
  • ACReSAL says the exercise will consolidate its achievements and strengthen grassroots implementation.
  • Project Coordinator Yakubu Clement called for stronger collaboration among local councils, communities and stakeholders.
  • Participants were urged to transfer the knowledge gained to rural communities.

The training is aimed at strengthening the capacity of grassroots stakeholders to effectively implement and sustain ACReSAL interventions focused on climate resilience, sustainable land management and improved livelihoods.

Declaring the programme open, the state Project Coordinator of ACReSAL, Yakubu Clement, said the exercise is organised to consolidate the achievements recorded by the project and equip LGPMC members with the knowledge and skills needed to support its implementation at the local government and community levels.

Clement said ACReSAL has made significant positive impacts in several communities across the state, noting that the project is determined to deepen its interventions and extend them to additional catchment areas.

He stressed that achieving the objective would require stronger collaboration among local government authorities, community leaders, project management committees and other stakeholders.

“When we work together, we will be able to strengthen ACReSAL in Taraba State,” Clement said.

The coordinator urged participants from the 16 local government councils to take the training seriously and ensure that the knowledge acquired was transferred to members of their respective rural communities.

He explained that the success and sustainability of ACReSAL interventions depend largely on the ability of local stakeholders to understand, take ownership of and sustain projects implemented in their communities.

Clement also charged the committees to remain committed to the objectives of ACReSAL and serve as effective links between the project and beneficiary communities.

Some participants, who spoke to journalists, said lessons from the first capacity-building exercise has improved their understanding of ACReSAL’s objectives and their responsibilities in ensuring the success of its interventions.

They expressed optimism that the second phase of the training would further strengthen their capacity to contribute meaningfully to the project in their respective communities.

According to them, the knowledge gained would enhance their ability to engage rural residents on climate resilience, sustainable natural resource management and community development.

The participants pledged to cascade the knowledge acquired during the three-day exercise to their communities and collaborate with other stakeholders to ensure that ACReSAL interventions achieve sustainable and lasting impact across Taraba State.
