The governorship candidate of the Accord Party in Taraba State, Prof. Jerome Nyameh, has outlined plans to tackle housing deficit across the state, describing housing as a key pillar of economic growth and social development.
Key Highlights:
- Construction of new housing estates in Jalingo and other local government areas to reduce the housing deficit.
- Assessment of existing housing estates by professional valuers.
- Allowing long-term tenants to purchase their homes or gain ownership through a revised rent-to-own scheme.
- Using housing development to improve living standards, stimulate economic activity, and support sustainable development goals.
- Emphasizing housing as a central part of his “Taraba Therapy Agenda.”
Prof. Nyameh said access to safe and affordable housing has become a critical component of sustainable development, noting that it aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 11, which focuses on building sustainable cities and communities.
According to him, if elected, his administration would construct new housing estates in Jalingo, the state capital and other local government areas to address the growing housing deficit in the state and improve living conditions for residents.
The governorship hopeful also disclosed that existing housing estates in the state would be assessed by professional estate valuers.
The exercise, he said, would enable long-term tenants to purchase their homes or acquire ownership through a revised rent-to-own scheme.
He explained that the proposed housing initiatives are aimed at expanding access to decent and affordable homes while stimulating economic activities within the state.

Prof. Nyameh stressed that urgent investment in housing infrastructure is necessary to meet the needs of the state’s growing population and enhance the welfare of citizens.
“Housing is a key component of the Taraba Therapy Agenda. Addressing the sector proactively will improve living conditions, promote economic growth, and enhance the overall well-being of the people,” he stated.
The Accord Party candidate expressed confidence in his ability to implement the programme if elected, reiterating his campaign message that “a new Taraba is possible.”
