A presidential aspirant on the platform of the Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), Abisayo Busari-Akinnadeju, has resigned from the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, citing what she described as the party’s failure to conduct a transparent and democratic primary process.

Key Highlights:

  • DLA presidential aspirant Abisayo Busari-Akinnadeju resigned from the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
  • She accused the party of lacking transparency and abandoning a fair primary process.
  • The resignation followed the party’s adoption of a consensus candidate.
  • Busari-Akinnadeju demanded a refund of her nomination fee and return of her documents.
  • She said her 2027 presidential ambition remains active and she will seek another platform.

In a resignation letter addressed to the party’s national chairman, Busari-Akinnadeju said her decision followed the adoption of a consensus candidate by the party’s leadership, a move she argued undermined internal democracy and denied aspirants a fair opportunity to contest.

“I do not resign in defeat. I resigned because I am not permitted a fair contest, and I will not lend my name to a process that has abandoned its own rules,” she stated.

The former aspirant also demanded a refund of her presidential nomination fee, alongside written confirmation of her resignation and the return of all personal documents and materials still being held by the party.

Busari-Akinnadeju thanked supporters across the country who backed her vision and aligned with her “Dare Nigeria” agenda, insisting that her political ambition for 2027 remains alive despite her exit from the party.

“My commitment to the 2027 presidential race and the Dare Agenda remains strong. I will continue that work on a platform worthy of it,” she added.

She maintained that recent events within the party further reinforced her belief that Nigeria requires genuine political reform and credible democratic institutions.

“A party that cannot conduct a fair primary among its own aspirants cannot credibly promise a fair country to its citizens,” she said.

The Ondo-born politician, who hails from Akungba Akoko, said she invested significant time, energy, and resources into the party with the expectation that it would provide a credible platform for leadership ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
