A major fire broke out late Thursday night at the AYM Shafa Filling Station in Area 3 of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), prompting an emergency response from the Federal Fire Service.

The blaze, which started at about 10 p.m., was still being battled by firefighters at the time this report was filed. The cause of the fire had not been officially established.

In a statement, the National Public Relations Officer of the Federal Fire Service, Paul Abraham, confirmed that emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the scene to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings and facilities.

 

According to him, firefighters were working intensively to bring the situation under control while safeguarding lives and property.

 

“The Federal Fire Service empathises with everyone affected by the ongoing fire incident at AYM Shafa Petrol Station, Area 3, Abuja. We understand the concern this situation may have caused to residents, motorists, business owners and members of the public, and we assure everyone that their safety remains our highest priority.

“Our firefighters are currently on the ground, working tirelessly and professionally to confine the fire, prevent its spread, and bring the situation under control as quickly and safely as possible,” Abraham said.

 

The Fire Service appealed to residents and bystanders to remain calm and stay away from the affected area to allow emergency responders carry out their duties without obstruction.

 

Motorists were also advised to avoid the Area 3 corridor and use alternative routes to reduce traffic congestion while cooperating with traffic officials and other emergency agencies.

 

Abraham assured the public that the Federal Fire Service would continue to provide verified updates as efforts to extinguish the fire progress.

 

As of the time of filing this report, authorities had not released information on casualties or the full extent of damage caused by the incident, while investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
