Dangote Petroleum Refinery has strengthened its position in the global energy market by remaining Europe’s largest external supplier of jet fuel for the second consecutive month, surpassing traditional exporters, including the United States.

The company disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, describing the achievement as another milestone in its drive to establish Nigeria as a major player in the international refined petroleum products market.

According to the refinery, data compiled by global commodities intelligence firm Kpler showed that more than 400,000 metric tonnes of aviation fuel produced at its Lekki facility were shipped to Europe in July, accounting for about 20 per cent of the continent’s total jet fuel imports during the month.

The July performance followed a record-breaking June, when the refinery exported 466,000 tonnes of jet fuel to Europe, marking the first time Nigeria overtook the United States as the region’s largest external supplier of the product.

Dangote Refinery said the sustained export volumes underscore its capacity to consistently meet Europe’s stringent fuel quality standards while supplying one of the world’s most competitive aviation fuel markets.

The company noted that Europe imported about 2.06 million tonnes of jet fuel in July, with Dangote emerging as the single largest supplier ahead of exporters from the United States and the Middle East.

It attributed the growing market share to its strategic location on Nigeria’s Atlantic coast, advanced refining technology, high production capacity and efficient export infrastructure, which have enabled it to compete with long-established global refiners.

The refinery added that increased operational capacity has driven its export expansion, revealing that jet fuel loadings at the Lekki export terminal reached a record 550,000 tonnes in June, while crude oil deliveries climbed to an all-time high of 660,000 barrels per day to support rising production.

It also linked its strong performance to shifts in global energy supply chains, noting that although Europe continued to import limited volumes of jet fuel from Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Oman, disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz and broader geopolitical developments encouraged buyers to diversify their supply sources.

According to the company, these developments have positioned Dangote Refinery as a reliable and competitive supplier, further enhancing Nigeria’s growing influence in the global trade of refined petroleum products.

Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Refinery, David Bird, said the facility has continued to expand exports of aviation fuel, diesel, petrol and other refined products to markets across Europe, Africa and other regions.

He said the refinery’s growing export portfolio is boosting Nigeria’s status as a net exporter of high-value refined petroleum products while strengthening the country’s role in the global energy industry.
