Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold has launched a $20,000 fund to support four sickle cell organisations in Nigeria, Canada, Ghana and the United Kingdom, in a move aimed at improving healthcare access and support for people living with the condition.

The fund, announced through his foundation in partnership with financial platform PESA, is part of the “WE’RE NOT DONE” initiative, which seeks to move sickle cell advocacy beyond public awareness to practical interventions that improve patients’ lives.

Key Highlights

  • Adekunle Gold launches a $20,000 fund to support four sickle cell organisations.
  • Beneficiaries are based in Nigeria, Canada, Ghana and the United Kingdom.
  • The initiative is a partnership between the singer’s foundation and financial platform PESA.
  • The fund will support healthcare access, patient services, education and advocacy.
  • The singer has previously supported medical outreaches and free health insurance for beneficiaries in Lagos.
  • Social media users have praised the initiative, highlighting the importance of celebrity involvement in health advocacy.

Four Sickle Cell Organisations to Benefit From Adekunle Gold’s Fund

The four organisations selected to benefit from the initiative are Sickle Cell Advocacy Management Initiative in Nigeria, Not Just You in Canada, Sickle Life in Ghana, and It Takes A Village in the United Kingdom.

According to the announcement, the organisations will use the financial support to expand healthcare access, strengthen patient support services, improve education and promote advocacy for people affected by sickle cell disease.

The $20,000 fund is expected to provide additional resources for the organisations as they continue working with patients, families and communities affected by the inherited blood disorder.

Adekunle Gold Moves Sickle Cell Advocacy Beyond Awareness

Adekunle Gold, who has publicly spoken about living with sickle cell disease, described the initiative as a move from raising awareness to taking practical steps to address the challenges faced by patients and their families.

The intervention builds on the singer’s previous efforts to support people living with the condition, including medical outreaches and the provision of free health insurance for beneficiaries in Lagos.

Through the latest initiative, the singer is seeking to strengthen organisations that provide direct assistance to people living with sickle cell disease, while encouraging sustained attention to their healthcare and social needs.

Sickle Cell Disease Remains a Major Public Health Concern in Nigeria

Sickle cell disease is an inherited blood disorder that affects haemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells responsible for carrying oxygen throughout the body.

The condition can cause severe pain episodes, anaemia, infections and other complications that may require regular medical attention and long-term care.

Nigeria carries a significant burden of sickle cell disease, making access to early diagnosis, treatment and continuing medical support an important public health concern.

For many affected families, the cost of hospital visits, medication, specialist care and the management of complications can create considerable financial pressure. Advocacy organisations also play an important role in providing information, emotional support and guidance to patients and caregivers.

The support announced by Adekunle Gold is expected to strengthen the capacity of the selected organisations to continue providing services to affected communities.

Social Media Users Praise Adekunle Gold’s Initiative

The announcement has attracted positive reactions on social media, with users commending the singer for using his influence to support a health condition he understands through personal experience.

A user identified as MOB, with the handle @Mayorof_benue, described the initiative as an example of using fame to make a meaningful difference.

“This is what using your platform for something meaningful looks like! Real impact beyond music. Shout-out to Adekunle Gold and PESA for supporting the sickle cell community,” the user wrote.

Another user, Emmyz World, said the singer deserved recognition for supporting others living with the condition, noting that his personal experience made the gesture particularly significant.

The user also urged celebrities to look beyond displaying wealth and use their platforms to improve lives through charitable interventions and advocacy on issues affecting Nigerians.

The reactions reflect growing calls for entertainers and other influential figures to use their visibility to support social causes and help address challenges affecting their audiences.

Adekunle Gold’s $20,000 Fund Targets Practical Support

Adekunle Gold’s latest intervention adds to his efforts to support the sickle cell community by providing resources for organisations working directly with affected individuals and their families.

The initiative is expected to strengthen healthcare support, education and advocacy across the four beneficiary countries.

Its ultimate impact will depend on how effectively the funds are deployed and the number of patients and families reached through the supported programmes.
