Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has approved the employment of 1,095 medical and allied health science students undergoing training in higher institutions within and outside Nigeria.
Under the approval, 294 medical students will be employed on Grade Level 07/2, while 801 allied health science students will be engaged on Grade Level 05/2, as part of measures to support their training and strengthen the state’s healthcare workforce.

Buni Approves Employment for Medical Students
Governor Buni said the employment initiative was designed to support students in their studies and encourage them to complete their training with commitment.
He said the beneficiaries would subsequently be expected to serve in government-owned health facilities across the state, helping to improve healthcare delivery in Yobe.
The governor urged the beneficiaries to reciprocate the government’s gesture through improved performance and greater commitment to their responsibilities.
Yobe Approves Academic Allowances for Tertiary Institutions
In a related development, Buni approved the implementation of the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) and Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) for staff of eight state-owned tertiary institutions and other Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).
The institutions covered by the approval include the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Gujba; Galtima Mai Kyari College of Health Science and Technology, Nguru; Shehu Sule College of Nursing and Midwifery, Damaturu; and the College of Administration, Management and Technology, Potiskum.
Others are Mai Idris Alooma Polytechnic, Geidam; Atiku Abubakar College of Education and Legal Studies, Nguru; and Umar Suleiman College of Education, Gashua.
Governor Reviews Veterinary Medical Officers’ Entry Grade
Buni also approved a review of the entry point for veterinary medical officers into the Yobe State service from CONMESS 2/2 to CONMESS 3/2.
He further approved an upgrade of the existing CONMESS structure covering 2/2–3/2, 3/1–4/1, 4/1–5/1, 5/1–6/1 and 6/1–7/1.
The adjustment is expected to affect the career progression and remuneration structure for veterinary medical officers in the state service.

Yobe Approves New Salary Structure for Law Officers
Similarly, the governor approved the implementation of the Consolidated Salary Structure for law officers in the Yobe State Ministry of Justice.
He also approved the placement of judiciary staff on the CONJUSS salary structure.
According to Buni, the various approvals are aimed at improving the welfare of beneficiaries, motivating them to demonstrate greater commitment to their duties and ultimately improving service delivery across the state.

The governor urged the beneficiaries of the various measures to justify the government’s investment by improving their performance and dedication to duty.
He stressed that improved welfare should be accompanied by greater responsibility and commitment to serving the people of Yobe State.
The latest approvals form part of the state government’s efforts to strengthen its healthcare workforce, improve the welfare of workers in key sectors and enhance service delivery across government institutions.
