The report showed that crude oil receipts by domestic refineries increased from 585,000 barrels per day in July to 683,000 barrels per day in August.

This represents a 16.75 per cent increase in crude supply to the country’s refining sector.

The rise in crude availability coincided with increased domestic petrol production and supply during the month.

Domestic Petrol Supply Rises 39%

According to the NMDPRA report, total petrol receipts increased by 11 per cent, rising from 45.5 million litres per day in July to 50.5 million litres per day in August.

Domestic petrol supply recorded an even larger increase, rising by 39 per cent from 25.8 million litres per day in July to 35.9 million litres per day in August.

The increase came as petrol imports declined during the same period.

Petrol Imports Drop 26%

Petrol imports fell from 19.7 million litres per day in July to 14.6 million litres per day in August, representing a 26 per cent reduction.

The figures indicate that a larger share of petrol supply was sourced from domestic refining during the period, although imports remained part of the country’s fuel supply mix.

Diesel imports also recorded a sharp decline.

The NMDPRA data showed that diesel imports fell from 7.9 million litres per day in July to 1.3 million litres per day in August.

LPG Imports Increase

While petrol and diesel imports declined, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) imports increased during the period.

LPG imports rose from 0.9 million litres per day in July to 1.3 million litres per day in August, according to the NMDPRA factsheet.

Dangote Refinery Records 105.21% Capacity Utilisation

The Dangote Refinery recorded an average capacity utilisation of 105.21 per cent in August, according to the regulatory authority’s data.

The refinery produced an average of 41.94 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, per day during the month.

It also produced an average of 18.01 million litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), or diesel, and 24.48 million litres of aviation fuel daily.

Dangote Refinery Supplies Petrol to Domestic Market

Of the petrol produced by the Dangote Refinery, 35.87 million litres per day were supplied to the domestic market, while 9.73 million litres per day were exported.

For diesel, domestic receipts stood at 12.37 million litres per day, compared with exports of 8.75 million litres per day.

The refinery also supplied 3.07 million litres per day of aviation fuel to the domestic market, while 21.30 million litres per day were exported.

Dangote Refinery Ends August With Fuel Stocks

The NMDPRA report further showed that the Dangote Refinery ended August with significant volumes of refined products in stock.

The refinery’s reported end-of-month stocks included:

  • 360.4 million litres of petrol
  • 137.2 million litres of diesel
  • 133.3 million litres of aviation fuel

The latest figures highlight increased crude supply to Nigerian refineries alongside higher domestic petrol supply and lower petrol imports during August 2026. For more energy and oil sector updates, follow us on X.
