The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has introduced a streamlined O’Level result verification process for candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions, with a one-time verification fee of ₦4,000 for the same West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) result.

The new arrangement is designed to reduce repeated verification requests and payments by allowing candidates to verify their O’Level results once for use during their admission process.

Key Highlights

  • JAMB O’Level result verification costs ₦4,000 under the new arrangement.
  • Candidates are required to pay the verification fee once for the same WASSCE result.
  • Verified results can be used for admission applications to multiple institutions.
  • Candidates should make payments only through official JAMB channels.
  • Institutions are expected to rely on verified results shared through the JAMB system.
  • Candidates should retain their verification details and confirmation records.

What Is Changing?

JAMB and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have introduced a system aimed at simplifying the verification of WASSCE O’Level results for candidates participating in JAMB-regulated admissions.

Under the arrangement, candidates pay a one-off ₦4,000 verification fee through the designated JAMB Verification Service.

The system is intended to replace situations where candidates were required to verify the same result repeatedly for different institutions and, in some cases, make separate payments.

Once a candidate’s result has been successfully verified, JAMB can share the verification outcome with relevant institutions for admission screening and processing.

How the ₦4,000 Verification Fee Works

The verification fee applies as follows:

  • Amount: ₦4,000
  • Frequency: One-time payment for the same WASSCE result
  • Who pays: Candidates whose admissions are handled under the JAMB-regulated process
  • Payment channel: The designated official JAMB Verification Service

Candidates are advised not to make payments to individual institutions, agents or unofficial websites claiming to offer O’Level verification services.

Once the same result has been verified, candidates applying to more than one institution should not have to repeat the verification exercise or pay another verification fee for that result under the new arrangement.

How to Complete JAMB O’Level Result Verification

Candidates can initiate the process remotely using an internet-enabled device. The process generally involves the following steps:

  1. Access the designated JAMB Verification Service platform, through the candidate’s JAMB e-Facility account or the relevant verification portal.
  2. Provide the required information, including NIN, examination body, examination number, number of sittings, examination year or series, email address and phone number, as requested by the platform.
  3. Pay the ₦4,000 verification fee through the official JAMB payment channel.
  4. Obtain the O’Level Verification Code generated after payment.
  5. Follow the instructions provided by JAMB to complete the verification process.

Where instructed, candidates may be required to send VERIFY [Verification Code] by SMS to the designated short code using the appropriate telephone number.

Candidates should keep their verification codes, payment information and confirmation details for future reference.

Why Is the Verification Done Only Once?

The one-time system is intended to prevent candidates from having to verify the same O’Level result each time another institution requests confirmation.

JAMB coordinates the verification process and makes the verified outcome available to relevant institutions. This creates a centralised system for confirming O’Level results during the admission process.

For candidates applying to several institutions, the arrangement could reduce repeated payments and the need to undertake the same verification process multiple times.

What Candidates Should Know

  • Use only official JAMB platforms for O’Level result verification and payment.
  • Do not give verification details to unauthorised agents.
  • Keep proof of payment and verification confirmation.
  • Candidates should check their JAMB records to ensure their O’Level results are correctly captured.
  • Results previously uploaded under earlier procedures may remain valid in applicable cases, subject to JAMB’s current requirements.
  • Candidates should confirm the latest instructions from JAMB before beginning the process.

The new JAMB O’Level result verification arrangement is part of efforts to simplify the handling of candidates’ academic records during the admission process and reduce unnecessary duplication.

Candidates are advised to rely on official communications from JAMB and WAEC for updates on the verification procedure, approved payment channels and any changes to the process, available on the official JAMB website.
