The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has thrown its weight behind the G-100, a coalition of 100 opposition figures seeking to build a united political platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
The PDP announced its endorsement of the coalition in a statement issued on Tuesday, by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong.
According to the party, the decision is informed by what it described as the worsening economic hardship, poverty and insecurity under the APC-led administration, making it necessary for opposition political parties and groups to unite ahead of the next general election.
The PDP said it participated in the inaugural meeting of the G-100 held on August 31, signalling its willingness to contribute towards the formation of a broad-based opposition platform for the 2027 polls.
It added that its involvement in the coalition was in line with its earlier commitment to work with like-minded political parties and organisations seeking to provide an alternative to the ruling APC.

The party’s factional National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki, said the PDP’s participation in the coalition would be guided by the principles of transparency, equality, data-driven decision-making and egalitarianism.
Turaki expressed confidence that a candidate produced through a transparent and credible process would offer Nigerians an alternative leadership capable of addressing the country’s economic and security challenges.
The development is expected to add momentum to ongoing efforts by opposition parties and political groups to form a formidable alliance capable of mounting a strong challenge against the APC in the 2027 presidential election.
The PDP maintained that any emerging opposition platform must be founded on a transparent, credible and inclusive process capable of producing a candidate with broad national support.
