The member representing Tudun Wada Local Government Area in the Kano State House of Assembly, Sule Shuwaki, has resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Shuwaki’s resignation letter was read during Monday’s plenary by the Speaker of the assembly, Ismail Falgore.
In the letter, the lawmaker said his decision follows “deep reflection and extensive consultation” with his political associates, supporters and family members.
He expressed appreciation to the APC leadership at the ward, local government, state and national levels for the opportunities and support he received during his membership of the party.
Shuwaki, however, said he had decided to pursue a new political direction based on his personal convictions.
After reading the letter, Falgore asked the lawmaker to confirm that he personally submitted it to the Assembly.
Responding, Shuwaki confirmed the resignation and his defection to the PDP.
He said although he had moved to the PDP several months ago, political consultations delayed the formal presentation of his resignation letter to the assembly.
“I brought this letter to present it before the Assembly regarding my movement from the APC to the PDP,” he said.

The lawmaker expressed appreciation to his former political associates and supporters in Tudun Wada for their role in his emergence as a member of the assembly.
He also urged members of the public to continue to uphold unity and goodwill despite political differences.
The development follows months of consultations over his political future, with the speaker disclosing that the resignation letter has been received about two months ago but was not immediately read.
Falgore explained that the assembly’s leadership had continued consultations with the lawmaker in an attempt to ascertain whether he would proceed with his decision.
He said Shuwaki has remained firm in his decision to leave the APC, prompting the formal presentation of the letter during plenary.
