The Kano State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has endorsed former President Goodluck Jonathan as the party’s presidential candidate, declaring its support for the decision of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and reaffirming its commitment to the PDP’s national leadership.

Key Highlights:

  • Goodluck Jonathan has been endorsed by the Peoples Democratic Party‘s Kano chapter as its presidential candidate.
  • The Kano PDP said it supports the party’s national leadership and NEC decision.
  • Party leaders dismissed concerns over recent defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
  • The PDP condemned the disruption of its special national convention in Abuja.
  • The party urged members to remain united and focused on governance, jobs, and security.

The state Chairman of the party, Yusuf Kibiya, made the position known during a press briefing in Kano on Monday, while addressing issues relating to the state of the party and its future direction.

Kibiya said the Kano PDP had reviewed the NEC’s decision on the presidential candidacy of Jonathan and resolved to align with the party’s national leadership in the interest of unity and progress.

According to him, the state chapter respects the processes that produced the decision and remains committed to advancing the party’s objectives within the framework of its constitution and democratic principles.

The chairman also dismissed concerns over the recent defection of some party stakeholders to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that the PDP in Kano remained united, cohesive and firmly rooted across the state.

“We acknowledge that some stakeholders have chosen to move away from the PDP to APC.

“However, the PDP in Kano State remains solid, cohesive and focused on its mission of providing good governance and strengthening democratic institutions,” he said.

He commended party members for the peaceful conduct of the recent primaries, describing the exercise as a demonstration of the PDP’s commitment to internal democracy, transparency and due process.

Kibiya further condemned the disruption and alleged blockage of access to the venue of the party’s special national convention in Abuja, where the PDP was expected to formally present its presidential flag bearer.

He described the development as a threat to democratic values and constitutional freedoms, urging all political actors to uphold the rule of law and engage in peaceful and constructive political activities.

The PDP chairman assured members and residents of Kano State that the party remained a formidable political force with a track record of public service, reform and resilience.

He pledged that the PDP would continue to pursue policies aimed at creating jobs, improving security and expanding access to essential services, while calling on members to remain united and committed to the party’s vision for Nigeria’s development.
