For a reality show famous for sparking romances, heartbreaks and love triangles, Big Brother Naija has also produced some of its biggest headlines through contestants who walked into the house already married.

While some proudly admitted they had spouses waiting outside, others kept their marriages hidden, leaving viewers stunned when the truth eventually surfaced. In some cases, the revelations sparked public outrage, strained marriages and dominated social media long after the housemates left the show.

With Abi announcing during the premiere of BBNaija Season 11: Show Ya Sef that she is married, fans are once again revisiting the small but controversial list of housemates who entered the famous house wearing wedding rings, whether openly or secretly.

The first name that comes to mind is Thin Tall Tony, whose appearance in BBNaija Season 2 remains one of the franchise’s most talked-about controversies.

When Tony entered the house in 2017, he never mentioned having a wife or children. Instead, viewers watched him develop a close friendship that gradually turned romantic with fellow housemate Bisola. Their chemistry became one of the season’s biggest storylines, with many fans rooting for them as a couple.

Everything changed after his eviction when Nigerians discovered that Tony was not only married but also a father. The revelation sent social media into a frenzy, with many accusing him of deceiving both Bisola and millions of viewers.

While some defended his decision as part of his game strategy, others argued that hiding such an important part of his life crossed the line. Even years later, his name still comes up whenever fans discuss BBNaija’s biggest controversies.

If Thin Tall Tony shocked viewers with secrecy, Tega Dominic generated headlines through her actions in the house.

The Season 6 housemate made it clear from the beginning that she was married. However, things took a dramatic turn after she developed an intimate relationship with fellow contestant Boma. Their closeness quickly became the biggest talking point of the season, triggering outrage across Nigeria and beyond.

Clips of the duo dominated social media, while fans questioned the future of Tega’s marriage. Religious leaders, celebrities and social commentators all weighed in on the controversy. Following her eviction, Tega admitted that some of her actions were regrettable and publicly apologized, saying she had learned difficult lessons from the experience.

History was made in 2024 when Kassia and Kellyrae entered BBNaija Season 9 as the first legally married couple ever to compete on the show.

Rather than reveal their relationship, the pair entered as DoubleKay, pretending to be best friends while hiding the fact that they were husband and wife. The strategy immediately became one of the season’s biggest talking points, with viewers constantly wondering whether the secret would eventually be exposed inside the house.

The gamble paid off. Their teamwork, emotional discipline and ability to protect their secret turned them into fan favourites, while Kellyrae’s eventual victory made him the first married contestant to win the reality show. Their journey proved that marriage could be turned into a strategic advantage rather than a weakness in the BBNaija game.

The newest member of the exclusive club is Abi, one of the standout housemates introduced during the launch of BBNaija Season 11.

Unlike some contestants before her, Abi chose transparency from the very beginning. During her introduction, she disclosed that she is married, explaining that although her husband initially had reservations about her joining the reality show, he eventually gave her his blessing and full support.

Her revelation immediately sparked conversations online, with many fans praising her honesty while others questioned how marriage would affect her interactions with male housemates inside the house. With romance often playing a major role in BBNaija, viewers are already watching closely to see whether Abi will maintain clear boundaries or find herself at the centre of another season-long conversation.

Over the years, married housemates have remained one of the rarest categories in BBNaija history, yet they have consistently delivered some of the show’s most unforgettable moments. From hidden spouses and secret identities to emotional apologies, public criticism and historic victories, each married contestant has left behind a story that continues to shape conversations around the reality show.

As Season 11 gathers momentum, Abi now carries the responsibility of writing the next chapter. Whether her journey becomes a story of discipline, strategy or controversy remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: whenever a married contestant walks through the famous BBNaija doors, viewers know the drama is only just beginning.
