Dangote Cement Plc has explained why it chose the London Stock Exchange (LSE) over the Dubai Financial Market for its planned secondary listing, saying the move will allow the company to access global investors more quickly and efficiently.

Key Highlights

  • Dangote Cement has chosen the London Stock Exchange (LSE) over the Dubai Financial Market for its planned secondary listing.
  • Company director Mariya Dangote said London was selected because the listing process is faster and better suited to the company’s expansion strategy.
  • The secondary listing is expected to take place before the end of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and market conditions.
  • The move aims to attract more global institutional investors and improve access to long-term financing.
  • Analysts believe the London listing will enhance Dangote Cement’s international visibility, trading liquidity, and investor base.

Mariya Dangote, a director of the company and daughter of Africa’s richest businessman, Aliko Dangote, said London emerged as the preferred option after careful consideration of both financial markets.

According to her, although Dubai was a strong contender, the listing process there would have taken much longer to complete, making London the more practical choice for the company’s expansion plans.

“We considered a secondary listing in Dubai, but it would have taken years. London is more compatible with our business,” Mariya said during a recent interview.

The planned listing, expected before the end of 2026 subject to regulatory approvals and market conditions, is part of Dangote Group’s strategy to strengthen its presence in international capital markets.

By listing in London, the company aims to attract more global institutional investors, improve access to long-term financing and support its ambitious expansion across Africa and beyond.

Market analysts say the move could significantly boost Dangote Cement’s international visibility by increasing trading liquidity, enhancing price discovery and widening its investor base outside Nigeria.

The listing also aligns with the Dangote Group’s broader vision of expanding its industrial operations in cement, petroleum refining and fertiliser production as it works towards becoming a $100 billion industrial conglomerate by 2030.

Industry observers have described the decision as a strategic milestone that underscores London’s appeal as a leading global financial hub for African companies seeking international investment while reflecting confidence in Dangote Cement’s long-term growth prospects.
