The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched a Special Intervention Patrol Operation in Enugu aimed at reducing road traffic crashes through intelligence-driven enforcement, public education and stricter compliance with traffic regulations across major road corridors in the state.

Speaking at the launch in Enugu, the FRSC Sector Commander, CC Franklin Agbakoba, represented by the Deputy Corps Commander in charge of Operations, DCC Kyrian Okolo, said the operation was specifically designed to address the unique road safety challenges across Enugu State and the FRSC Enugu Zonal Command.
According to him, the coordinated intervention demonstrates the Corps’ commitment to tackling persistent traffic violations through intelligence-led enforcement, sustained public enlightenment, increased operational visibility, stakeholder engagement and collaboration with sister security agencies.
He explained that the initiative seeks to reduce road traffic crashes, protect lives and make roads across Enugu State safer for motorists, passengers and other road users.
The operation will focus on major traffic offences, including vehicle overloading, mixed loading of passengers and goods, driving without a valid driver’s licence, failure to install speed-limiting devices, route violations, dangerous driving, use of mobile phones while driving, defaced number plates, and defective windscreen and wiper systems.
Okolo noted that the patrol operation combines intensive enforcement with continuous public education, emergency rescue preparedness and enhanced operational visibility to address the recurring causes of road crashes.

According to him, the operation is expected to significantly reduce avoidable deaths and injuries by confronting dangerous driving behaviours that continue to endanger lives on Enugu roads.
He urged motorists to comply with traffic regulations and cooperate with FRSC personnel, stressing that road safety is a shared responsibility requiring the commitment of all road users.
