President Bola Tinubu has appointed former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, and 25 others to the boards and leadership of 10 federal agencies and commissions, with the appointments taking immediate effect.

The appointments were announced on Monday in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Among the appointments, Fayose was named Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), despite his controversial political career and previous prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged corruption.

Former House of Representatives member, Olajumoke Okoya-Thomas, was appointed Secretary of the commission.

Other appointees to the commission include Dr Ogbole Ene Lilian, Oladele Olatubosun and Yakubu Umar Barde as commissioners representing Benue, Oyo and Kaduna states, respectively. Dr Mai Adamu Yau (Borno), Ginika Florence Tor (Enugu), Engineer Lawrence Okoh (Edo) and Bello Morenike Iyabode (Kogi) were named members.

In another development, Tosin Johnson Adeyanju, who previously served as Executive Secretary of the National Lottery Trust Fund, was redeployed as Secretary of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission.

The President also appointed Dr Abuh Mohammed as Director-General of the National Population Commission, Dr Akinola Odeyemi as Managing Director of the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Plc (NBET), and Dr Anthony Inalegwu Godwin as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission.

Engineer Julius Oloro was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM) in Kwara State, replacing the late Dr A.R. Kamal, who died in January.

Also appointed was Shuni Muhammad Dahiru as Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, replacing Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu, who was earlier reassigned to the Petroleum Trust Development Fund.

To fill the vacancy created by the resignation of former Federal Housing Authority Executive Director (Finance), Mathias Byuan, Tinubu appointed Gisaor Vincent Iorja. Byuan resigned to pursue the Benue State governorship election.

Iorja, an economist, legal scholar and academic, currently serves as Secretary of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission.

According to Onanuga, all the appointments take effect immediately.
