Asaba, the Delta State capital, will host the maiden edition of the Afrobeat Cultural Festival on August 1, 2026, with organisers saying the event will use the influence of Afrobeat music to promote youth empowerment, cultural unity and campaign against drug abuse.
The festival with the theme: “Celebrating the Impact of Davido on African Music, Youth Culture and National Unity,” is being organised by the Gateway to Better Life Foundation Inc. in collaboration with DASH Foundation Inc., USA, and the Davido International Supporters Group (DIS-G).
According to a statement issued by the organisers, the event will take place at St. Patrick’s College, Nnebisi Road, Asaba, beginning at 12 noon.
The organisers described the festival as a first-of-its-kind initiative designed to harness the popularity of Afrobeats as a platform for social advocacy, particularly in addressing drug abuse and addiction among young people.
They said the event would also focus on supporting victims of drug abuse through awareness campaigns and advocacy, aimed at promoting a safer and healthier society.
Inspired by the legacy and influence of Nigerian music star Davido, the festival will feature a Davido Legacy Recognition Session, cultural parade, talent discovery programme, youth empowerment initiatives, anti-drug awareness campaign, musical performances, community impact recognition and a free medical outreach.
