The newly rebuilt market, officially named Modibbo Adama Modern Market, Yola, is expected to transform the state’s commercial landscape by providing a safer, cleaner and more organised trading environment for thousands of business owners and customers.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony in Yola, Governor Fintiri described the project as a fulfilment of his administration’s commitment to building durable infrastructure that stimulates economic growth, protects investments and restores public confidence in public facilities.
According to the governor, the old Yola Market had become synonymous with disorder, unhygienic conditions and devastating fire outbreaks that repeatedly destroyed shops and goods worth millions of naira, leaving many traders counting heavy losses.
He noted that while some people attributed the persistent fires to superstition, his administration chose a practical and lasting solution by completely reconstructing the market with modern facilities designed to minimise fire risks and improve the overall trading environment.

The governor disclosed that the new market comprises 936 shops, including 816 lock-up shops and 120 open stalls, supported by upgraded infrastructure aimed at enhancing safety, sanitation, accessibility and convenience for traders and visitors.
To preserve the facility’s modern standards, Governor Fintiri directed the Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industries to engage professional facility managers to oversee security, sanitation and routine maintenance of the market.
He expressed confidence that effective management would ensure the market remains functional, attractive and beneficial to the state’s growing business community.
Governor Fintiri also announced that the reconstructed facility will henceforth be known as Modibbo Adama Modern Market, Yola, describing it as a symbol of urban renewal and a testament to his administration’s resolve to modernise public infrastructure across Adamawa state.
The commissioning marks a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to improve commerce and strengthen the local economy by providing traders with a secure and well-planned marketplace capable of supporting sustainable business growth.
