Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening regional security cooperation and deepening partnerships aimed at addressing emerging security threats across Africa.
The commitment was restated by the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, during the African Chiefs of Defence Conference (ACHOD), where military leaders from across the continent and international partners met to discuss strategies for tackling evolving security challenges.

Speaking during the conference, General Musa stressed the importance of innovation, collaboration and economic development in promoting lasting peace, stability and sustainable growth across Africa.
According to him, African countries must work collectively to build “a resilient and adaptive security architecture capable of responding to current and emerging threats to secure Africa’s future.”
The annual conference serves as a strategic platform for senior military leaders to deliberate on common security challenges, strengthen regional stability and promote collaborative frameworks that support peace, investment and economic development.
This year’s edition focused on addressing transnational security threats, countering disinformation and promoting the responsible use of emerging technologies, including drones, in modern military operations.

During Nigeria’s presentation, the Chief of Defence Staff identified key priorities for strengthening security across the continent, including improved intelligence sharing, revitalisation of regional security mechanisms, enhanced integrated border management, expanded defence cooperation and stronger efforts to disrupt terrorism financing and external support networks sustaining insecurity.
General Musa also commended the longstanding defence partnership between Nigeria and the United States, describing it as a valuable collaboration that has enhanced the operational capabilities of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and strengthened regional counter-terrorism efforts.
On the sidelines of the conference, the CDS held bilateral meetings with defence chiefs from other countries and international partners to explore deeper cooperation in combating cross-border security threats.
The Armed Forces of Nigeria reiterated that intelligence sharing, regional partnerships and coordinated military operations remain critical to addressing terrorism, violent extremism, drug trafficking and other forms of transnational organised crime.
It further reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to leveraging platforms such as the African Chiefs of Defence Conference to strengthen international collaboration and advance collective security across the African continent.
