The Taraba APC Primary Election Battle recorded another legal twist on Wednesday after the Federal High Court sitting in Jalingo adjourned proceedings in the case challenging the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency until July 15, 2026.

Key Highlights

  • Federal High Court adjourns the Taraba APC Primary Election Battle to July 15, 2026.
  • Suit challenges the conduct and outcome of the APC primary election for Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency.
  • APC and Rep. Prince Tafida Abas seek to be joined as defendants in the case.
  • Court to determine pending joinder applications before hearing the substantive suit.
  • Outcome could shape the APC’s candidature and internal electoral process in Taraba State.

The matter came before Justice Mashkur Salisu, who heard separate applications filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the member representing Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Prince Tafida Abas, seeking leave to be joined as defendants in the suit.

The applicants argued that their participation in the proceedings is essential to enable them respond to the allegations and defend the validity of the APC primary election being challenged before the court.

Following arguments from counsel, Justice Salisu adjourned the matter to July 15, 2026, when the court is expected to rule on the pending joinder applications before proceeding with the hearing of the substantive case.

The suit has attracted significant political attention in Taraba State, as it seeks judicial interpretation of the legitimacy of the APC primary election that produced the party’s candidate for the Jalingo/Yorro/Zing Federal Constituency.

Political analysts believe the outcome of the litigation could have major implications for the APC’s internal democratic process and the party’s candidate for the constituency ahead of the next phase of the electoral process.

With the latest adjournment, all parties are expected to return to court on the scheduled date for the determination of the joinder applications and subsequent hearing of the substantive issues before the court.
