Egypt has unveiled The Octagon, its sprawling new Ministry of Defense headquarters, which has overtaken the United States’ Pentagon to become the world’s largest military headquarters complex.
Located in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital, about 45 kilometres east of Cairo, The Octagon serves as the central command headquarters of the Egyptian Armed Forces and is regarded as one of the country’s most ambitious strategic infrastructure projects.
The defence complex covers approximately 22,000 acres and boasts a total floor area of more than 50.5 million square feet, making it the largest military headquarters ever constructed.

Inspired by Pharaonic architecture, the facility comprises eight octagonal buildings, each accommodating key branches of the military, including the army, navy, air force and air defense.
Designed to meet modern international command and control standards, the complex functions as an integrated military command centre and is intended to house the state’s vital defence institutions.
The Octagon is considered the flagship project within Egypt’s New Administrative Capital and underscores the country’s drive to modernise its military infrastructure while strengthening its strategic defence capabilities.
