France secured a commanding 3-0 victory over Sweden to book their place in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Kylian Mbappe producing another stellar display by scoring twice.

Didier Deschamps’ side controlled the knockout encounter and took the lead just before half-time, when Mbappe found the back of the net in the 45th minute to give Les Bleus a deserved advantage.

France continued to dominate after the interval and doubled their lead in the 53rd minute through Bradley Barcola, whose composed finish left Sweden with a mountain to climb.

Mbappe sealed the emphatic victory in the 74th minute, completing his brace and sending France comfortably into the next round.

The two-goal performance also marked another milestone for the French captain.

Mbappe’s tally at the tournament rose to six goals, drawing him level with Lionel Messi as the competition’s joint-leading scorer.

His latest strike also took his overall World Cup total to 18 goals in just 18 appearances, making the 26-year-old the second-highest goalscorer in FIFA World Cup history.

France’s convincing performance further strengthened their status as one of the favourites to lift the trophy, with their attacking quality once again proving decisive.

Les Bleus will now shift their focus to the Round of 16 as they continue their pursuit of another FIFA World Cup title, with Mbappe’s red-hot form offering renewed confidence for the challenges ahead.
