The Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) has announced plans to resume electricity distribution and other operational activities in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, following the resolution of the crisis that led to the suspension of its services after an attack on its office.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Wednesday by the company’s Communications Officer, Blessing Tunoh, bringing an end to weeks of uncertainty for residents and businesses affected by the disruption in power supply.
YEDC recalled that on May 4, 2026, suspected hoodlums invaded its office in Biu, vandalising the facility, destroying valuable property and carting away company assets.
The incident forced the company to suspend operations in the area over concerns for the safety of its personnel and the security of its infrastructure.
According to the company, the decision to return followed successful interventions by the Borno State government, which facilitated dialogue among the parties involved.

YEDC particularly commended Governor Babagana Zulum for his leadership and the role played through the state Ministry of Power and Energy in resolving the dispute peacefully.
The company also expressed appreciation to the Biu Local Government Authority, the Biu Elders Forum, and other prominent sons and daughters of the community for their constructive engagement and support, which contributed significantly to restoring normalcy.
While condemning the attack on its personnel and facilities, YEDC stressed that violence and vandalism are detrimental to electricity service delivery, noting that such actions ultimately hurt the very communities they seek to serve.
The distribution company urged customers to utilise its established complaint resolution and customer engagement channels to address service-related concerns instead of resorting to violence or the destruction of public infrastructure.
With the dispute now resolved, YEDC said preparations are at an advanced stage to restore operations in Biu, reaffirming its commitment to delivering safe, reliable and efficient electricity services to customers across its franchise area.
The planned resumption is expected to provide much-needed relief to residents, businesses and public institutions in Biu, many of whom have experienced prolonged disruptions in electricity supply since the attack on the company’s facilities.
