A political group in Ebonyi State, Anyi Ga Emeya, has challenged the existence and credibility of the Ebonyi South Youth Assembly, while rejecting calls for a “4 plus 4” governorship power rotation arrangement ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

The group maintained that the 2027 governorship election should be determined by competence, leadership capacity, and the ability to drive development rather than political arrangements based solely on zoning and tenure calculations.

In a statement issued by its coordinators across the five local government areas of Ebonyi South Senatorial District, the group expressed strong support for Chief Ifeanyichukwuma Odii, describing him as a leader capable of transforming the state.

The coordinators include Orji Oko Akanu (Edda LGA), Pascal Okochi (Afikpo LGA), Chukwuemeka Ijeh (Ivo LGA), Okereke Ndubuisi (Ohaozara LGA), and Successful David (Onicha LGA).

The group pledged continued support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and vowed to work towards Odii’s emergence in the 2027 governorship election.

According to the statement, Odii has demonstrated exceptional leadership through numerous philanthropic interventions, empowerment programmes, and community development projects across Ebonyi State.

“Anyichuks has the capacity to lead the state. Anyone supporting him is someone who has seen the future of Ebonyi State. It is only Anyichuks that can bring about a turnaround and make Ebonyi the state of our dreams,” the group stated.

The group further highlighted Odii’s contributions to youth and women empowerment, noting that he has consistently invested personal resources in improving the lives of residents through educational support, infrastructure projects, and social intervention programmes.

“Someone who has used his personal resources to touch lives, build projects, and empower both youths and women will certainly do more when entrusted with public office,” the statement added.

The group urged political stakeholders, youths, and women across the state to move beyond ethnic, clannish, and sentimental politics and instead focus on leadership that can accelerate development and economic growth.

“We want to encourage everybody, both youths, women, and stakeholders, to shun clannish politics and the politics of sentiment. Focus on the betterment of Ebonyi State and its citizens,” the group said.

Speaking on Odii’s humanitarian activities, the group disclosed that he regularly funds and commissions community projects, including churches, residential buildings, schools, and agricultural empowerment initiatives.

According to the statement, beneficiaries of several skill acquisition and agricultural training programmes sponsored by Odii are expected to receive empowerment packages in the coming months.

The group also strongly opposed the “4 plus 4” political slogan being promoted in some quarters, insisting that Ebonyi people voted for development and good governance rather than predetermined tenure arrangements.

“Nobody should be deceived by the mantra of ‘4 plus 4’. That was not what the people voted for. The people voted for development, infrastructure, and a better Ebonyi State,” it stated.

Addressing recent comments credited to the Ebonyi South Youth Assembly, the group dismissed the organisation, claiming it lacks legitimacy and does not speak for the majority of youths in the senatorial district.

“There is nothing like Ebonyi South Youth Assembly. A few individuals gathered somewhere and claimed to represent Ebonyi South youths. If they truly represent the people, they should come out and defend their position publicly,” the statement declared.

The group further recalled that previous governorship elections in Ebonyi State featured candidates from different senatorial zones competing under varying political arrangements, arguing that democratic competition should not be restricted by unwritten political agreements.

The reaction follows a recent statement by the Ebonyi South Youth Assembly, which urged Chief Ifeanyichukwuma Odii to abandon his alleged 2027 governorship ambition, citing the state’s power rotation principle.

The youth group had argued that political stability in Ebonyi State has largely been sustained through adherence to equity, fairness, and rotational leadership among the state’s three senatorial zones.

It also called on residents of Ebonyi South to support the continuation of Governor Francis Nwifuru’s administration and warned against actions it claimed could undermine the state’s political balance.

However, Anyi Ga Emeya insisted that competence, development, and the collective interests of Ebonyi people should remain the primary considerations in determining the state’s future leadership.
