The Adamawa State Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged brutalization and maltreatment of an elderly man after a video of the incident surfaced on social media.
The victim, Hamza Haruna, a resident of Yolde Pate in Yola South Local Government Area, was seen in the viral video recounting how he was allegedly subjected to inhumane treatment by members of a hunters’ group operating in Molkohi.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Kabir Umar Hassan, ordered a comprehensive and discreet investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that anyone found responsible is prosecuted in line with the law.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said the command strongly condemned all forms of brutality, torture and degrading treatment, stressing that no individual or group has the authority to take the law into their own hands.

The commissioner also warned hunters, vigilante groups and other quasi-security outfits across the state against abuse of power, unlawful arrests and any form of human rights violations.
According to the statement, while such groups play supportive roles in community security, they are required to operate within the confines of the law and uphold the fundamental rights and dignity of citizens.
The command assured the public that the case is receiving urgent attention and that efforts are ongoing to identify and bring all those involved in the alleged misconduct to justice.
It reaffirmed its commitment to the protection of lives and property, maintenance of law and order, and the promotion of justice, peace and respect for human rights across Adamawa State.
