The Delta State Police Command has announced the arrest of seven suspects in separate operations across the state, with police officers recovering two firearms and eight live cartridges during intelligence-led raids targeting suspected criminal elements.
In a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the police said police officers attached to the command’s Anti-Cult Unit stormed a suspected criminal hideout at Eku-Igun community in Ethiope West Local Government Area on May 11, 2026, at about 2:30am.

According to the statement, six suspects alleged to be linked to an unlawful society were arrested during the raid.
The police disclosed that officers recovered one locally made single-barrel gun, one locally made double-barrel pistol, and two live cartridges from the suspects.
The command said investigations were ongoing to determine the suspects’ involvement in recent cult-related killings and other violent crimes reported in Eku, Igun, Abraka and neighbouring communities.
“The investigation is ongoing to ascertain the suspects’ possible involvement in recent cult-related killings and other violent crimes within Eku, Igun, Abraka, and neighbouring communities.
“Efforts are being intensified to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang,” the statement said.

In a separate operation, police officers attached to the Safe Delta Unit at the Head Bridge, reportedly intercepted a 32-year-old suspect identified as Mokwunye Prince Jerry on May 13, 2026, at about 3:40pm while conducting stop-and-search operations.
The police said the suspect was riding a motorcycle and carrying a sack bag when he was stopped and searched.
During the search, officers allegedly recovered six packets of live cartridges concealed in the bag.
Preliminary investigations, according to the police, revealed that the suspect claimed to be a member of a hunters/vigilante group in Ibusa and alleged that one Anthony, who is currently at large, instructed him to collect the ammunition.
The Delta State Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the police officers involved in the arrests, reiterating the command’s commitment to tackling cultism, illegal possession of firearms and violent crimes across the state.
