The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced major concessions on nomination and expression of interest forms for women, youths, and persons living with disabilities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Key Highlights:

  • The Nigeria Democratic Congress has introduced reduced and free nomination form policies ahead of the 2027 elections to encourage inclusion.
  • The policy targets women, youths, and persons with disabilities to improve political participation.
  • Women aspirants will pay 50% of nomination and expression of interest fees.
  • Youths aged 18–35 also get a 50% discount, while persons with disabilities will pay 25% of fees.
  • The party says the reform is aimed at removing financial barriers and promoting equal opportunity in politics.

In a statement signed by the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Enekweizu, the NDC said the move is aimed at promoting inclusiveness and encouraging wider participation in Nigeria’s democratic process.

According to Enekweizu, the initiative reflects the party’s belief that financial challenges, age, or physical disabilities should not prevent Nigerians from seeking elective offices and contributing to national development.

“The fact that someone is young and may not be a money bag or is disadvantaged by some physical disabilities should not shut him or her from contributing their quota to nation-building,” he stated.

The party also noted that women in Nigeria have continued to face cultural and structural barriers that limit their political participation, stressing that affirmative action remains necessary to ensure balanced representation.

Enekweizu added that sidelining women in politics would amount to denying the country the contributions of nearly half of its population.

Under the new arrangement, all female aspirants contesting on the platform of the NDC will pay only 50 per cent of the official cost of both Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms.

The party also approved a 50 per cent reduction for aspirants between the ages of 18 and 35, while persons living with disabilities will pay just 25 per cent of the advertised fees.

The statement further explained that forms for presidential, governorship, and National Assembly elections would be obtained at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, while state House of Assembly forms would be available at NDC state offices nationwide.
