President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka Fadewa as the special adviser on homeland security.

The appointment was disclosed in a statement issued by the office of the secretary to the government of the federation and signed by the Head of Information and Public Relations, Chris Ugwuegbulam.

According to the statement, the appointment is part of the administration’s efforts to strengthen internal security coordination, intelligence-led operations and inter-agency collaboration in addressing emerging security threats across Nigeria.

The circular confirming the appointment was reportedly signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, , and issued through the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Ibrahim Abubakar Kana.

Major General Fadewa was described as a highly decorated retired military officer with more than 30 years of experience in military operations, intelligence coordination, counterterrorism and international security diplomacy.

He previously served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser between 2015 and 2021, where he reportedly contributed to the development of Nigeria’s intelligence coordination framework.

The retired general was also credited with leading the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre at the Office of the National Security Adviser, bringing together agencies including the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force and the Armed Forces.

Following his retirement from military service, Fadewa reportedly became a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, focusing on policing reforms, civil-security cooperation and national security policy discussions.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that Fadewa’s experience and strategic expertise would support ongoing efforts to improve homeland security, intelligence integration and proactive risk management under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
