A political support group, the Plateau Vanguard for Democracy (PVD), has defended Governor Caleb Mutfwang over his reported alignment with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting the move was driven by political realities and the need to protect Plateau State’s interests amid what it described as the worsening crisis within the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a statement issued by the group’s National Coordinator, Chris Ishaku, the PVD said recent developments within the PDP had vindicated Gov. Mutfwang’s political calculations, alleging that the opposition party was steadily collapsing under internal instability and uncertainty.

According to the group, emerging indications that even influential figures within the PDP were seeking alternative political platforms for their loyalists showed that the party could no longer guarantee stability for governance and development.

“Governor Mutfwang saw ahead of many others. The reality today is that the PDP has no clear future, and responsible leaders must position their people where opportunities and stability exist,” Ishaku stated.

Key Highlights:

  • Plateau Vanguard for Democracy defended Caleb Mutfwang over his reported alignment with the APC, saying the move was necessary to protect Plateau State’s interests.
  • The group claimed the Peoples Democratic Party was facing deep internal instability and could no longer guarantee political stability or development.
  • PVD said Mutfwang’s political strategy had already started yielding benefits, including improved peace among political elites in Plateau State.
  • The group linked the commencement of the Akwanga-Jos Road project to stronger cooperation between Plateau State and the Federal Government under the All Progressives Congress administration.
  • PVD urged Plateau residents to support the governor’s political direction, arguing that stability and closer federal ties would bring more development opportunities to the state.

The group argued that the governor’s alignment with the APC had already begun yielding benefits for Plateau State, both politically and economically.

PVD cited what it described as improved peace among political elites in the state, noting that reduced political hostility and internal rivalry had created a more stable environment for governance.

The group also linked the federal government’s decision to commence work on the Akwanga-Jos Road project to Plateau State’s improved relationship with the centre.

“The commencement of the Akwanga-Jos Road is a practical signal that Plateau is now benefiting from stronger cooperation with the federal government. These are the gains of strategic political alignment,” the statement added.

According to the group, the road project is expected to improve transportation, boost commercial activities and strengthen security across the region.

The PVD further argued that with internal political disputes reduced, the Mutfwang administration could focus more on governance, infrastructure and development programmes.

The group urged residents of Plateau State to support the governor’s political direction, insisting that the state stood to gain more through stability, unity and closer engagement with the Federal Government.
