The Akwa Ibom State government has announced that its airline, Ibom Air, will begin international operations with a maiden flight from Uyo to Accra, Ghana, on Saturday, May 2, 2026.
According to a statement by Governor Umo Eno, the flight will depart from the Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, to the Kotoka International Airport in Accra, marking a major milestone following presidential approval for the airport’s upgrade to international status.
The inaugural return flight is set for Sunday, May 3, 2026, and is expected to signal a new phase in Akwa Ibom’s aviation and economic development agenda.
Gov. Eno described the development as a significant achievement in the state’s drive to enhance global connectivity, boost tourism, and attract investment.
He also commended President Bola Tinubu for approving the upgrade and the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, for his support in making the project a reality.

The Commissioner for Information, Aniekan Umanah, also noted that the milestone reflects years of planning and investment in the aviation sector by successive administrations in the state.
He added that the government remains committed to strengthening the aviation ecosystem to support economic growth.
The announcement follows earlier inspections by aviation authorities in late 2025, which confirmed that the Uyo airport was ready for international operations.
The launch positions Akwa Ibom as a new entrant in Nigeria’s international aviation network, opening direct travel links between Nigeria and Ghana from the South-South region.
