The Delta State Government has approved the long-awaited construction of the Oteri-Igbide/Emede Road, a project expected to transform transportation and economic activities in the Isoko area of the state.

The approval was granted during the State Executive Council meeting presided over by the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, under the administration’s MORE Agenda, which focuses on infrastructure development across rural and urban communities.

Residents of the affected communities have sought the construction of the road since 1999. With the new approval, the project is expected to open up easier access between key settlements in the area and address long-standing transportation challenges faced by commuters and traders.

When completed, the Oteri-Igbide/Emede Road will significantly reduce travel time from Oleh through Emede and Oteri-Igbide to Owodokpokpo. The journey, which currently takes about thirty minutes, is projected to drop to less than ten minutes, providing faster access for residents, farmers and traders.

Beyond improving mobility, the road is expected to stimulate economic activity in the region, particularly around the busy fish trading hub near the Urie Rivulet in Owodokpokpokpo. Traders and buyers who rely on the waterway for their livelihoods are likely to benefit from easier transportation of goods and increased commercial traffic once the project is completed.

Community leaders and stakeholders have praised the state government for approving the project, describing it as a long-awaited development that will strengthen commerce and connectivity within the Isoko axis.

Sources with the community recognised amongst others the Delta State Commissioner for Lands, Survey and Urban Development, Hon. Goodnews Emamusi Obiodeh and the Clan Otota of Igbide Kingdom, High Chief Mamode Akugha whose efforts were widely acknowledged as contributing to the approval of the project.

The Oteri-Igbide/Emede Road project is expected to benefit several communities and provide a major boost to the local economy, particularly for fish traders and residents who depend on the route for daily business activities.
