The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has elected Chief Solomon Arenyeka as its new state chairman, with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori tasking the new leadership to begin early groundwork for victory in the 2027 general elections.
Arenyeka emerged through consensus at the party’s state congress held on Tuesday at the Cenotaph in Asaba, where delegates affirmed members of a new State Working Committee.
Elder Moses Iduh was elected deputy chairman, while Chief Efe Uko clinched the position of state secretary.
Others returned unopposed include Chief Paulinus Akpeki (Delta Central chairman), Chief Emmanuel Amgbaduba (Delta South chairman), Daniel Ossai (Delta North chairman), Elder Emmanuel Egbabor (state organising secretary), Valentine Onojeghuo (state publicity secretary), Mrs. Ifeyinwa Sobotie (state woman leader), and Christopher Agali (state youth leader).
Chairman of the State Congress Electoral Committee, Vita Abba, declared the executives duly elected following affirmation by delegates, noting that the process complied with the party’s constitution and guidelines.
Earlier, the former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Victor Ochei, moved a motion for the dissolution of the outgoing state working committee to pave the way for a new leadership.
The motion, seconded by Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, received unanimous approval from delegates.
In his address, Gov. Oborevwori commended the outgoing executive led by Elder Omeni Sobotie for what he described as steady leadership during a crucial transition period following the political realignment of April 2025.
The governor said the decision to align Delta State with the renewed agenda of President Bola Tinubu had strengthened the party’s structure and broadened its appeal.
He praised party members for maintaining discipline and unity, stressing that the peaceful conduct of congresses across 270 wards, 25 local government areas, and the state level reflected internal cohesion.
According to him, the consensus-driven process demonstrated inclusiveness rather than imposition, adding that the structure belongs to all party faithful.
