The world’s second-ranked SL3 para-badminton player and a Paralympic bronze medalist Eniola Bolaji has left Nigeria with two other athletes to compete in the Para-Badminton World Championship in Bahrain, which will run from February 8 to 14.

This marks Bolaji’s second international competition of the year, following her impressive gold medal win at the Egypt International Championship in January, where she solidified her position among the elite para-badminton players globally.

Nigeria will also be represented by Chigozie Jeremiah, a 2024 Paralympian, in the men’s SL4 category, while Chinyere Okoro will compete as the country’s sole representative in the women’s SL4 event.

After the team’s departure, Francis Orbih, President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), expressed strong confidence in the athletes’ preparedness and their potential to achieve remarkable results for Nigeria.

Orbih noted that the players had completed a month-long intensive training camp in Abuja and are fully equipped to compete at a high level in Bahrain.

“Nigeria’s para-badminton players are once again ready to represent the country on the world stage,” Orbih stated. “The athletes have demonstrated exceptional dedication and commitment during their training in Abuja.

“Eniola Bolaji is currently in the best shape of her career following her success at the Egypt International Championship, while Chigozie Jeremiah and Chinyere Okoro are well-prepared and eager to bring home honors for the nation.”

Orbih also praised the National Sports Commission and GIG Logistics for their ongoing support, highlighting that their contributions have been crucial in facilitating the athletes’ participation in important international ranking events.
