Chelsea captain, Cesar Azpilicueta, is pondering on handing a transfer request to Chelsea to see him fulfil a move back to Spain, with Barcelona arms-wide to receive him for reinforcement of their defence.
Azpilicueta has one year left on his contract after spending about a decade with the club he shared in a couple of successes, including winning a Champions League double.
The captain of Thomas Tuchel’s side is guaranteed a starting lineup by Xavi Hernandez and this is confirmed by the Catalans’ unwillingness to renew Dani Alves’s contract at Camp Nou.
According to The Sun, the 32-year-old, who can play in the right-wing back and centre-defensive position, would add value to Barcelona. “Azpilicueta could request the ‘transfer request’ at the request of Barça to be able to change Stamford Bridge for the Camp Nou,” The Sun said.

However, the Blues captain has served in the highest capacity in Chelsea’s squad honouring the jersey and would love to leave on a remarkable note without straining the relationship with the club or Thomas Tuchel.
Although Tuchel and Azpilicueta are due to hold talks to decide on the latter’s future, Barcelona are growing frustrated over the delay because they need the Spaniard to join the team in their pre-season preparations.
Azpilicueta became a Chelsea player in 2012 when he made a circa £7m switch from French side Marseille. He has scored ten goals and parades 324 appearances stat for the club.
