Nigeria has emerged as a global frontrunner in the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly in education, employment, and entrepreneurship, according to a new report by Google and Ipsos.

The study, titled: “Our life with AI: Helpfulness in the hands of more people,” highlights the growing use of AI tools among Nigerians and their strong optimism about the technology’s future.

The findings were shared on Tuesday by Google’s Communications and Public Affairs Manager for West Africa, Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, who noted that Nigerians are embracing AI at a pace that far exceeds global averages.

The report revealed that 88 percent of Nigerian adults have interacted with an AI chatbot, representing an 18-point increase since 2024 and well above the global average of 62 percent.

“It is encouraging to see how Nigerians are using AI in creative and practical ways to unlock opportunities for learning, personal development, and economic empowerment,” Kola-Ogunlade said.

“This report is not just about high adoption figures; it shows a country actively shaping its future through technology.”

The report indicates that AI has become an essential tool for education and professional growth in Nigeria.

About 93 percent of Nigerian users rely on AI to understand complex topics, compared to 74 percent globally, while 91 percent use it to support their work-related tasks.

In addition, 80 percent of Nigerians reportedly use AI to explore new business ideas or consider career changes, nearly double the global figure of 42 percent.

The study also revealed strong confidence in AI’s role in education, with 91 percent of Nigerian respondents saying it improves learning and access to information, compared to 65 percent worldwide.

Furthermore, 95 percent believe that university students and educators will benefit significantly from AI tools.

Kola-Ogunlade added that Nigerians demonstrate a higher level of optimism about AI than users in many other countries, with 80 percent expressing excitement about its potential and only 20 percent voicing concerns.

He noted that optimism rises to 90 percent among Nigerians who use AI frequently in their daily activities.
