Nigerian striker Victor Boniface is facing weight and fitness challenges following his loan move to German Bundesliga side Werder Bremen, according to the club’s Managing Director of Professional Football, Clemens Fritz.
Boniface joined Bremen on loan from Bayer Leverkusen after a late collapse of his proposed summer transfer to Serie A giants AC Milan. But since his arrival, the 24-year-old forward has struggled to regain full fitness and break into Bremen’s starting lineup.
So far, Boniface has featured in only four Bundesliga matches, registering one assist on his debut but no goals yet. Reports from Germany suggest that the forward is carrying excess weight, attributed partly to his diet and genetics, which has compounded stress on his knee, an area already weakened by two previous cruciate ligament injuries.
Fritz confirmed that the club is working closely with the Nigerian international to restore his form and conditioning. “Together with Victor, we have identified the issues and are supporting him from all angles,” he told BILD. “This includes athletic training, physiotherapy, and nutritional guidance. He’s open to the process and motivated to improve.”
