The APP Owerri Zone Senatorial Candidate for the 2027 general election, Mazi Chima Matthew Amadi, has condemned the alleged vandalisation of the Action People’s Party (APP) secretariat in Owerri, describing the incident as a threat to democracy and political freedom ahead of the 2027 elections.
Amadi said the alleged destruction of the party’s facilities was part of a disturbing pattern of intimidation against opposition political parties and urged security agencies to investigate the incident and ensure equal protection for all political parties.

In a statement issued on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Cajetan Duke, the APP Owerri Zone Senatorial Candidate said residents of Imo State woke up on Sunday, July 19, 2026, to reports of the alleged vandalisation of the party’s facilities at its Iwuanyanwu Glass House State Secretariat in Owerri.
According to him, the destruction of the party’s official signage and other facilities was not an isolated incident but appeared to be part of a coordinated effort to intimidate opposition parties and shrink the democratic space ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Amadi described the alleged attack as an assault on democratic values, political tolerance and the constitutional rights of citizens to freedom of association, expression and political participation.

He maintained that democracy can only thrive where political parties are allowed to campaign freely, citizens exercise their rights without fear, and elections are contested based on ideas, competence and performance rather than intimidation or violence.
The APP senatorial candidate insisted that no amount of harassment, intimidation or destruction of party property would discourage the people of Imo State from exercising their constitutional right to elect leaders of their choice.
According to him, the people of Imo have consistently demonstrated political awareness by rejecting impunity and abuse of power through the ballot box, adding that the latest incident would only strengthen public resolve to defend democracy.
Amadi also claimed that the increasing acceptance of the APP across the state had unsettled political opponents, stressing that the party remains committed to offering credible, accountable and people-oriented leadership.
He urged the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to remain professional, impartial and proactive by investigating the incident and ensuring every registered political party enjoys equal protection under the law.
The APP candidate further called on party supporters and residents of Imo State to remain calm, peaceful and law-abiding despite the alleged provocation, noting that violence has no place in a democratic society.
He reaffirmed the Action People’s Party’s commitment to competence, equity, inclusive development and good governance, expressing confidence that the future of Imo State would ultimately be determined through the free and fair expression of the people’s will at the ballot box.
