Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has formally declared his intention to contest the Delta Central Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general elections under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a detailed declaration, Omo-Agege said his decision followed extensive consultations with stakeholders across the eight local government areas of Delta Central, citing growing calls from constituents urging his return to the National Assembly. He described the move as a response to public demand and a commitment to deepen representation for the Urhobo Nation.

The former lawmaker, who served as Deputy President of the 9th Senate between 2019 and 2023, framed his candidacy as a continuation of his previous legislative record. He recalled key projects executed during his tenure, including federal institutions, healthcare upgrades, educational interventions, and infrastructure development across the district.

Omo-Agege stressed that Delta Central requires experienced representation capable of influencing national policy, attracting federal projects, and advancing economic opportunities. He pledged to prioritise legislation that strengthens education, healthcare, security, and job creation, particularly for youths and women.

He also reaffirmed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing ongoing economic reforms as necessary steps toward long-term national stability. According to him, continuity in leadership at the federal level will ensure sustained investment in infrastructure and economic growth.

Highlighting the strategic importance of Delta Central within Nigeria’s oil and gas economy, Omo-Agege said the district stands to benefit significantly from federal policies, including infrastructure expansion, energy reforms, and youth-focused initiatives. He emphasised the need for stronger collaboration between the legislature and the executive to deliver tangible development.

The APC chieftain further called for unity within the party in Delta State, urging members to work together ahead of the 2027 elections. He assured supporters of a fair campaign and pledged to support all party candidates emerging from the primaries.

Describing the contest as one driven by ideas and performance, Omo-Agege appealed to voters across political divides to support his vision for a more influential and development-focused Delta Central.
