Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, of Borno state, has pledged to ensure the fair and equitable distribution of 37,000 bags of assorted grains donated by the federal government to the state.
The grains which are meant for the most vulnerable citizens of the state, he said will be evenly distributed to them.
He made the pledge during the official handover ceremony held at the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) central store in Maiduguri on Monday.
The food items, which include maize, sorghum, millet, and garri, were formally presented by NEMA to the governor, who expressed his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the federal government for their continued support.
“On behalf of the government and people of Borno State, I want to profoundly express our appreciation to the federal government under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for allocating 37,000 bags of assorted food items,” Zulum said.
He assured that the grains would be distributed judiciously to those most in need, stating that,”I want to use this medium to assure the federal government that the assorted grains will be judiciously distributed to the less privileged and most vulnerable and deserving households in the state.

The governor who stated that the grains will not be diverted, said “I will ensure every deserving member of society gets it.”
Zulum, who noted that, this is not the first instance of federal assistance, highlighted previous support in food items and housing.
He extended his gratitude to President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and the Director General of NEMA for their ongoing aid.
On his part, the Director General of NEMA, Mallam Zubaida Umar, who was represented by the Northeast Zonal Director, Mallam Yakubu Suleiman, confirmed the federal government’s approval of 42,000 metric tonnes of assorted grains for vulnerable households nationwide.
“President Bola Tinubu approved the release of 42,000 metric tonnes of assorted grains from the national reserve to vulnerable households and groups to cushion the economic hardship.” He said.
Borno State’s allocation, as observed by our correspondent, includes 594 metric tonnes of maize (over 11,000 bags), 252 metric tonnes of millet (5,130 bags), and 9,972 metric tonnes of sorghum (69,409 bags), ensuring substantial support for the state’s food security.
