Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State, has pledged to bolster trade and economic cooperation between his state and the Republic of Chad.
The aim of the trade and economic cooperation the governor said, is to revive commerce and socio-economic activities that were disrupted by the over a decade Boko Haram insurgency.
Gov. Zulum made the announcement in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital during a meeting with a high-profile Chadian delegation led by General Abdulkarim Idris Derby Itno.
The Chadian officials were in Maiduguri, to sympathize with the Borno State Government and the people of the state over the recent recent flood disaster in the state.

Gov. Zulum also revealed plans for an upcoming visit to Chad, where he will meet with President Mahamat Idris Derby Itno, to discuss ways to enhance trade, with a focus on reopening waterway transport between Baga Town in Borno State and Chad to facilitate trade.
The governor also emphasized the need for collaboration between the chambers of commerce in Chad and states in the North East of Nigeria to strengthen economic partnership.
He further announced his administration’s plans to repatriate Nigerian citizens currently seeking refuge in Baga Sola in Chad.
