World champion Tobi Amusan has been handed a wild card entry to compete in the next edition of the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Amusan, who stunned the world in the recently concluded World Athletics Championships by terminating Kendra Harrison’s 6 years record in 100mh, will alongside other winners feature in Budapest 2023 without following the usual qualification route.
Also to get the node to skip the qualifying series through a statement by the world athletics governing body on Friday, August 19, 2022, are selected number of area champions in certain disciplines and subjected to certain conditions, 2023 Gold Label marathon winners and top-five finishers at Platinum Label marathons.
“Defending world champions will be offered a wild card entry, as will the winners of the 2022 Diamond League, World Race Walking Tour and World Combined Events Tour, plus the leading hammer performers on the Continental Tour; all subject to selection by the athlete’s national federation,” the world body said.
“Area champions in selected disciplines and subject to certain conditions, top-five finishers at Platinum Label marathons during the qualification period and winners of Gold Label marathons held in 2023 shall also be considered as having achieved the entry standard,” world athletics added.
Meanwhile, the logo for the 2023 World Athletics Championships has been unveiled which depicts the visual framework by World Athletics with regard to the shape defined by the international federation in 2019.
The logo, an emblematic replica of the 14-metre-tall charismatic woman holding a palm at Gellért Hill, Statue of Liberty, reflects values that are historic to the Hungarian people.
According to World Athletics, “the palm branch held in the statue’s hand has been a symbol of glory, victory and light since ancient times, a reward for the athletes of the past.”
“The complexity of this symbol, the link with sport, tourism, and heroism make the Statue of Liberty the perfect symbol of the World Championship,” the world body continued.
“In addition to this symbol, the visual identity of the logo also carries an important message: it creates a link with the graphic world of comics and superheroes.
“We think that the world champions, Olympic champions and athletes who push human physical limits every day are real superheroes living among us.
“They are the heroes who inspire everyday heroes and do more for their own health by walking, running and doing sport every day. These everyday heroes will meet the superheroes in Budapest in August 2023.
“The main colours of the logo are orange and the shades of black, inspired by the colours of the Hungarian athletics, and red and green are the colours of the Hungarian flag while the white colour is part of both,” World Athletics added.
Moreover, the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest scheduled from August 19-27 have amended the number of athletes in certain events compared to 2022 with the field events number increasing from 32 to 36.
