The Minister of Petroleum Resources (Gas) Hon Ekperikpe Ekpo has assured Nigerians of completion of projects in the gas sector to ensure supply of gas to all sectors across Nigeria.
In his remarks during a courtesy visit by the National President of Nigeria Union of Journalists Comrade Chris Isiguzo which was made available through the Minister’s Media Aide Louis Ibah to Journalists in Uyo on Tuesday, Ekpo said his team understands the burden caused by abolition of petrol subsidy on the gas sector being an alternative form of energy to drive the Nigerian economy.
He said his team has done everything needed to fast track completion of all ongoing projects such as the Obiafo-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) and the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas supply lines, so as to have cheaper and affordable gas delivered to Nigerians in no distant time.
” We are doing everything within our disposal to complete all gas projects. This will guarantee steady supply of gas to Nigerians.”
Ekpo disclosed that on assumption of office, he took out time to evaluate key components of the gas industry adding that the Nigerian gas industry is vast with a lot of prospects for national growth and economic development.
“Transparency has been our watchword in delivering on our targets in the gas sector. We cannot afford any form of distrust or rancour especially at this teething stage.
“We need the buy-in of everyone, especially the Nigerian public at all times. This explains why our doors remain open to everyone and every enquiry,”
Responding , the President ,Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Dr. Chris Isiguzo harped on the need for government and public office holders to conduct government business with transparency.

Isiguzo explained that the visit by the Union was a critical engagement rooted in the Union’s collective commitment to transparency, collaboration and advancement of our national interest.
He said the media as the fourth estate of the realm was empowered by the constitution to serve as guardians of public interest and ensure that the actions and decisions of leaders resonate with the principles for public good.
“We are eager to learn more about the progress made, the challenges encountered, and the achievements thus far.
“This knowledge will enable us to provide the Nigerian public with accurate, insightful, and hopeful narratives that reflect the true state of the sector.”
