The political contest ahead of the August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election has taken a fresh twist, with Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma mocking Afrobeats star Davido over his support for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid.

Davido had earlier appealed for a peaceful, free and credible election, urging political leaders he believed could influence the process to allow Osun voters freely choose their next governor.

Responding through his Senior Special Assistant on Electronic and Creative Media, Ambrose Nwaogwugwu, Uzodimma dismissed the singer’s appeal, insisting that the outcome of the election would be determined solely by the people of Osun State.

He described Davido’s comments as “pedestrian” and maintained that he had no intention of interfering in the electoral process, reaffirming his support for the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.

The Imo governor also criticised Governor Adeleke’s administration, claiming there was growing dissatisfaction among residents and that many voters were ready for a change in leadership.

“The signals emerging from across Osun State are clear. There is a growing indication that a significant number of voters have rejected the current administration and are prepared to embrace a new direction,” he said.

Uzodimma then took a swipe at the music star, suggesting Davido should begin preparing his uncle for life after politics.

“Rather than attempting to influence Governor Hope Uzodimma through emotional appeals, Davido should concentrate on helping his uncle prepare for life after office,” he said.

In his strongest remark, the governor added: “Perhaps, Davido should also begin making preparations to officially sign his uncle as a dancer in his musical band because, judging by the mood of the electorate, he may well be out of a political job after the August 15, 2026, governorship election.”

The exchange has injected celebrity drama into the Osun governorship race, with Davido openly campaigning for his uncle while Uzodimma backs the APC candidate.

With just days to the election, the political rivalry between the PDP and APC is expected to intensify as both parties seek to sway voters ahead of the crucial poll.
