U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered the United States Navy to engage and destroy any vessel suspected of laying naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil transit route.

In a statement posted on his social media platform, Trump said:
“I have ordered the United States Navy to shoot and kill any boat that is putting mines in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz. There is no hesitation.”

He added that U.S. forces are currently conducting mine-clearing operations in the waterway and that the effort would be intensified.

“Our mine sweepers are clearing the Strait right now. I am ordering that activity to continue at a significantly increased level,” he stated.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategic maritime corridors, handling a significant portion of global oil shipments. Any escalation of military activity in the area carries implications for international energy markets and shipping routes.

As of the time of filing this report, the Pentagon and U.S. naval authorities have yet to issue an official statement clarifying the scope and rules of engagement tied to the directive.

Security analysts have warned that the order could heighten tensions in the already volatile Gulf region and increase the risk of disruption to global oil supply chains.

Further details are expected from U.S. officials as the situation develops.
