Troops of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Mandaragirau under the 25 Brigade, Sector 2 of ‘Operation HADIN KAI’, have successfully repelled a terrorist attack on their position in Borno State, despite challenging weather conditions and poor visibility caused by heavy rainfall.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the acting Media Information Officer of ‘Operation HADIN KAI’, Lieutenant Colonel Haruna M. Sani, the terrorists launched the attack at about 3:00 a.m., attempting to infiltrate sections of the military base under the cover of darkness and severe weather.

The troops, however, mounted a swift and fierce counter-offensive that frustrated the attempted incursion and inflicted significant losses on the attackers.

Military authorities described the response as a demonstration of the resilience, courage, and determination of personnel operating in the North-East theatre.

Despite the successful defence of the base, the military confirmed that five soldiers lost their lives during the intense firefight and close-quarter combat that ensued.

Some military equipment was also damaged during the engagement.

The statement further disclosed that three members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) were killed, while supporting troops during the operation.

Personnel who sustained injuries were immediately evacuated by the air vomponent vommand and are currently receiving medical treatment in stable condition.

“Operation HADIN KAI paid tribute to the fallen soldiers and CJTF members, describing their sacrifice as a reflection of the highest ideals of patriotism, bravery, and commitment to national security,” the statement said.

Military authorities assured that troops remain firmly in control of the Forward Operating Base and continue to dominate the surrounding area.
