The operation, conducted in the early hours of Tuesday, July 1, 2026, along the Akpe Aggah–Egbema Forest axis, led to the arrest of the suspect at Obiakpu Forest in Imo State, marking another breakthrough in ongoing military efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating in the South East.

According to the Nigerian Army, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly served as the principal armourer and logistics coordinator for a criminal group believed to be responsible for repeated attacks on oil facilities and security personnel deployed in the Ohaji–Egbema area.

During the raid, troops recovered a substantial cache of arms and ammunition, including one AK-47 rifle, one M4A1 carbine, one M16A2 rifle, six magazines, five pump-action guns, one locally fabricated pistol, and a large quantity of assorted ammunition.

Military authorities described the recovery as a significant operational success, noting that the seizure would considerably disrupt the group’s logistics network and reduce its capacity to launch further attacks on critical national infrastructure and security formations.

The Nigerian Army confirmed that the suspect is currently in military custody and is undergoing further interrogation to provide intelligence that could lead to the arrest of other members and collaborators of the criminal syndicate.

Security agencies said follow-up operations are already underway to dismantle the remaining elements of the network and strengthen security across affected communities.

Reaffirming its commitment to restoring peace and protecting critical national assets, the Army stated that Operation UDO KA will continue to intensify offensive operations against criminal elements threatening lives, public safety and economic infrastructure in the South East.

The military also appealed to residents to support ongoing security efforts by providing timely, credible and actionable intelligence through established security channels, stressing that public cooperation remains vital to sustaining the gains recorded in the fight against insecurity.
