In a devastating blow to the Delta State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, the newly appointed Divisional Police Officer, DPO of Agbarho Division, who resumed duty just two days ago, has been killed by suspected kidnappers.
According to reports he was killed during a kidnapping rescue operation in the early hours of today near the Agbarho Rail Station, following a gun battle with the suspected kidnappers which also left the DPO of Orerokpe, CSP Paul, critically injured.
Speaking on the incident in his Facebook handle, Human Right activist, Israel Joe disclosed that the police team, led by the two DPOs, was ambushed by armed assailants at around 1 a.m.
He said, “an intense gunfight ensued, resulting in the tragic death of the Agbarho DPO. CSP Paul, who sustained severe injuries, was rushed to an undisclosed hospital, where he is currently battling for his life.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, especially as many had interacted with the new Agbarho DPO just hours before his death.
Confirming the incident to The Trumpet, Delta State Police Spokesman, SP Edafe Bright, clarified that aside from the death of the Agbarho DPO and the injury to the Orerokpe DPO, no other casualties were reported from the ambush.
