Arsenal are facing a major setback after winger Bukayo Saka was ruled at risk of missing at least six weeks, with his quadriceps injury potentially keeping him out for up to two months.
Key Highlights
- Bukayo Saka faces six weeks to two months out with a quadriceps injury.
- He was injured in Arsenal’s 2-2 Champions League draw with Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
- An MRI scan and specialist opinions will determine the severity.
- Saka will miss Saturday’s Premier League clash with Everton and could miss England’s Nations League games.
- Madueke, Eze and Max Dowman are among Arteta’s alternatives, with Tzolis also injured.
The 25-year-old sustained the injury during Arsenal’s 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, forcing him off the pitch before the final whistle.
The England international is scheduled to undergo an MRI scan to determine the severity of the injury, with fluid around the affected muscle making an early assessment difficult.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said further scans and specialist opinions were needed before the club could provide a definitive diagnosis.
Arteta expressed concern over the circumstances of Saka’s withdrawal, noting that the winger had struggled to walk without pain and had restricted movement.
Saka will miss Arsenal’s Premier League home fixture against Everton on Saturday as the Gunners seek to reduce the three-point gap separating them from league leaders Manchester City.
A prolonged absence would also threaten his availability for England’s forthcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Croatia and Spain.
Recurring fitness struggles
The injury adds to Saka’s recent fitness struggles, having dealt with Achilles, hip and hamstring problems over the past two seasons.
He underwent surgery for a hamstring injury in December 2024, which kept him out for 101 days during the 2024-25 campaign. He also missed seven Arsenal matches after an Achilles problem in March and had his playing time managed towards the end of last season.
Despite those setbacks, Saka made 49 appearances as Arsenal won the Premier League title last season.

Arteta’s options on the wings
His latest injury presents another challenge for Arteta, who has relied heavily on the winger’s attacking contributions. Saka has scored four goals in 11 appearances so far this season.
Arsenal’s options on the wings could be further stretched by the absence of Greece international Christos Tzolis, who is also injured.
Noni Madueke, Eberechi Eze and teenage forward Max Dowman are among the alternatives available to Arteta, although Dowman has had limited playing time this season.
The club is expected to have a clearer picture of Saka’s recovery timeline after the further medical assessments.
