  • The Operation HADIN KAI has confirmed the surrender of two senior terrorist commanders in a major counter-insurgency breakthrough.
  • The suspects surrendered to troops in Geidam on July 4 before being moved to Maiduguri, where they are currently undergoing profiling, debriefing, and intelligence exploitation.
  • Preliminary investigations indicate the two commanders held influential positions within the terrorist hierarchy and possess extensive knowledge of the group’s operations and logistics.
  • Intelligence obtained from their debriefing is expected to support future intelligence-led military operations by exposing the terrorists’ command structure, supply chains, and support networks.
  • The military attributed the surrender to sustained land and air offensives, improved intelligence gathering, and continuous pressure that has weakened insurgent operations across Nigeria’s North-East.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, by the acting Media Information Officer of ‘Operation HADIN KAI’, Captain Mohammed Goni, the two commanders surrendered to troops of Sector 2 in Geidam on July 4, before arriving in Maiduguri the following day.

According to the military, the surrendered suspects, identified as Munzirs within the terrorist leadership structure, are currently in military custody where they are undergoing profiling, debriefing and intelligence exploitation.

The statement said preliminary interrogation revealed that the two men occupied influential positions within the terrorist hierarchy and possess extensive knowledge of the group’s operations, command structure and logistics network.

It added that intelligence gathered from the ongoing debriefing has already provided useful information on the terrorists’ operational methods, supply systems and support networks, which is expected to strengthen intelligence-led operations targeting remaining terrorist enclaves across the North-East.

The military described the surrender as a major setback for the insurgents, attributing it to sustained offensive operations carried out by the army in collaboration with other security partners.

According to the statement, continuous land and air operations, backed by improved intelligence gathering, have restricted the movement of terrorist fighters, weakened their combat capability and disrupted their command and control structures.

The military also said increasing pressure from security forces has continued to force both commanders and fighters to abandon the insurgency and surrender.

It maintained that it would sustain the momentum of its operations, intensify intelligence-driven offensives and continue working with relevant stakeholders until terrorist elements are either neutralised or persuaded to lay down their arms.

The latest surrender comes as security forces continue operations aimed at restoring peace and stability across the North-East region.
