Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, widely known as Tems, celebrated a significant achievement at the 67th Grammy awards by winning the award for Best African Music Performance with her song ‘Love Me JeJe’.
She triumphed over notable competitors, including Yemi Alade’s ‘Tomorrow’, Asake featuring Wizkid’s ‘MMS,’ Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay’s ‘Sensational’, and Burna Boy’s ‘Higher’.
This victory marks Tems’ second Grammy win, adding to her impressive accolades.
At this year’s Grammys, Tems received three nominations, bringing her career total to eight.
She was also in the running for Best Global Music Album with ‘Born in the Wild’ and for Best R&B Song with ‘Burning’.

The awards ceremony took place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
In the Best African Music Performance category, the nominees included Asake & Wizkid for ‘MMS’, Burna Boy for ‘Higher’, Chris Brown featuring Davido & Lojay for ‘Sensational,’ Tems for ‘Love Me JeJe’, and Yemi Alade for ‘Tomorrow’.
In addition to Tems’ win, the Best Global Music Album award went to Matt B & Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for ‘Alkebulan II’, and SZA’s track ‘Saturn’ took home the Best R&B Song award.
South Africa’s Tyla received recognition for her song ‘Water’, winning in the category’s inaugural year.
